Not withstanding that the local planning authority had already allowed a large flat roofed side extension to this terraced property, it then refused a small porch extension to the rear citing impact upon the character of the Conservation Area and loss of amenity to the adjacent property. We successfully argued and the appeal Inspector agreed that the small extension could not be seen from outside the site so had no impact on the Conservation Area, while its height was only fractionally higher than an existing fence so there was no significant effect on the neighbouring house.
